Our Mission

I am Amyracle, Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c )(3) organization dedicated to providing health education and increasing community awareness by facilitating collaboration among families, parent/caregivers, advocates, and maternal and child health care providers for the delivery of equitable maternal and child health care and resources.

The mission of I am Amyracle, Inc. includes the following:

To gather, analyze, interpret and report data;
To create health educational tools to disseminate to families and providers;
To decrease the systemic inequities and biases in healthcare outcomes between different socioeconomic and racial groups;
Normalizing conversations around the US Black maternal health crisis and birthing outcomes;
To elevate the US Black maternal health crisis to a Reproductive Justice and Public Health narrative;
To achieve Birth Equity and Birthing Justice
To foster interdisciplinary communication, education and collaboration;
To intensify efforts toward the improvement and prevention of adverse maternal and child health outcomes by addressing reproductive oppression, systemic inequities, and institutional racism;
To secure multiple funding resources related to maternal and child health.

About AMYR -OUR "MYRACLE"

Our Story

Hello, and thank you for visiting our site!

I am Amyracle is a family/children's book that tells the story of our son--Amyr--who was born prematurely at 27 weeks--weighed 1lb 12 oz--, stayed in the NICU for 121 days, and overcame and thrived through a multitude of medical challenges (Cerebral Palsy, respiratory challenges, VP-shunt, amongst other conditions).

This animated book "I am Amyracle.... and i was born early" is told through the eyes of Amyr and is narrated entirely by him. My purpose was to create an educational piece of literature that is "family friendly" that aims to normalize the topics of prematurity in Black families and high-risk maternal health and birthing outcomes. "I am Amyracle.... and i was born early" is a health education book for families. These conversations are not had in Black and brown families until you are going through it. I know when I was pregnant I never imagined that this would be our journey, and I wish I had stories of other families to lift up what this journey would entail.

Our goal is to make this tool accessible to families and parents at hospitals--NICU’s--, pediatrician offices, advocate spaces, health centers, and at other medical offices at no cost to the parent(s). This book is used as an educational to to normalize the conversations around maternal morbidity and mortality, and birth outcomes for Black womxn. And, our untold stories are not used as resources and tools.
